<body-html>
The cut of a diamond is an essential part of its beauty. Even with excellent colour and clarity, a diamond will not show its famous sparkle unless there is the right interaction with the light to make this possible.

The width and depth of a diamond has a large impact on its brilliance (the reflection of white light we can see when looking at the diamond).

	If a diamond has a shallow cut, we lose the light from the bottom of the stone. A shallow cut can make a
diamond appear lifeless due to the lack of light play.

	If a diamond has a deep cut, we can lose the light through the sides of the diamond. A deep cut will darken all
of the proportions of the diamond.

	If a diamond has the ideal cut, the light bounces back up and out of the top of the stone. An ideal cut will
bring the diamond’s brilliance to view.

The diagram below shows the difference in the light play between the different cuts of a diamond.
